Above The Law is a gangsta rap group from Pomona, California, founded in 1989 by members Cold 187um, KMG the Illustrator, Go Mack, DJ Total K-Oss and Kokane.

Their first record deal was on Eric "Eazy-E" Wright's Ruthless Records, the independent label owned by Wright that featured major acts like N.W.A., The D.O.C., and Eazy-E himself.

In 1990 they released their debut album Livin' Like Hustlers. Critically acclaimed on release, the album was produced by the group alongside casual member Laylaw and Dr. Dre, and featured a guest appearance by N.W.A.. Despite the strong material, the album was a commercial flop. However, in their 1998 "100th issue," The Source magazine listed Above The Law's debut as one of the 100 Greatest Hip Hop Albums of All Time.

A 1991 EP was released to promote the groups sophomore album. However, by the time Vocally Pimpin was released, it had received mixed reviews. With only a scant few new songs and mostly remixes, the EP did not perform well.

It was during this time Dr, Dre was involved in a messy break up with Eazy E and Ruthless Records, and was (according to Ronin Ro's Have Gun Will Travel) contractually obliged to produce two more songs for the group. Although these songs were recorded, they were never released. It is possible the changing times at the record label were responsible for the average quality of the EP.

In 1993, the group released the critically acclaimed Black Mafia Life. Go Mack was now gone, as was Laylaw, and Cold 187um took on the bulk of production. The group reinvented themselves with a fresh new sound which they referred to as G-funk. Dr. Dre's The Chronic released at the end of 1992, may or may not have adopted this sound, although it was released several months before Black Mafia Life, and sparked a long-standing debate between Dre and ATL over the originator of the sound.

The album featured cameos by Tupac, MC Ren, and Eazy E, as well as a quirky fresh new talent named Kokane. The single VSOP proved to be popular, but once again the album failed to achieve success.

In 1994 the group were back with the hit single Black Superman, later cited as one of the 100 Greatest Hip Hop Singles of All Time in The Source magazine, 1999. The single preceded their third album Uncle Sam's Curse, introducing a harder, more heavy and ominous twist on the G-funk they previously presented. Again Cold 187 took on the production and Kokane featured heavily throughout.

In 1995 label owner Eazy E died quickly of AIDs related illness, and the majority of the remaining roster at Ruthless Records began to jump ship from the waning label.

Above The Law would find themselves signed to Tommy Boy in 1996, where they released their fourth album Time Will Reveal.

In 2004 Murder Rap appeared on popular videogame Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, playing on West Coast hip hop radio station Radio Los Santos.

Gravediggaz was a hardcore rap group from New York City, well-known for its dark sense of humor and abrasive, menacing soundscapes. The group was formed in 1994 and was effectively a supergroup, bringing together Prince Paul (formerly producer with De La Soul and Stetsasonic), Frukwan from Stetsasonic, Too Poetic from the Brothers Grym, and RZA from the Wu-Tang Clan (which at the time of Gravediggaz' formation had only just released its first album). The group is widely credited as being one of the most influential and pioneering groups in the small hip-hop subgenre of horrorcore.

The group's first album was originally titled Niggamortis; however, the potentially risqué title was changed to 6 Feet Deep for the American market (European versions of the album retained the original title, and also included the bonus track "Pass The Shovel"). Released on August 9 1994, 6 Feet Deep was a mix of black humor, cartoonish violence reminiscent of the Geto Boys, esoteric references to the Nation of Gods and Earths, and some of Paul's darkest production. The four members adopted Gravedigga alter egos for their work with the group: The RZA became RZArecta, Poetic became the Grym Reaper, Prince Paul became the Undertaker, and Frukwan became the Gatekeeper and rex.

The three rapping members (without Prince Paul) released a collaborative EP titled "The Hell EP" with UK trip hop artist Tricky in 1995.

The second full-length Gravediggaz album, The Pick, the Sickle and the Shovel, released in 1997, was less oriented to humor and more to social and political issues than 6 Feet Deep, and used calmer and more conventional production. Prince Paul played a considerably smaller role in the making of this album, with many of the production duties now taken care of by RZA and his Wu-Tang associates (including True Master and 4th Disciple).

Poetic finally succumbed to cancer in July 2001. Frukwan stated in an interview not long after Poetic's death that a new album using leftover Poetic material would be released.[1] The album Nightmare in A-Minor, the third for Gravediggaz, was released independently in 2001 and only featured two of the original members, Poetic and Frukwan. This album was their darkest work yet, including many references to Poetic's struggle with colon cancer with a focus on the more apocalyptic themes of the teachings of the Five Percent Nation. Although RZA did not take part in the making of the album, some Wu-Tang Clan affiliates such as 4th Disciple, True Master and Beretta 9 were involved. The album was mostly produced by Poetic and Frukwan themselves. A slighty different version of the album (minus the song "Better Wake Up") was released to widespread critical acclaim in 2002. Gravediggaz would split up later that year.

There have been no other OFFICIAL releases by the Gravediggaz except 2004's "6 Feet Under" which i don't even bother to post... It was an awful attempt by Frukwan to get money over Poetic's death. The only difference between Frukwan's lame solo debut "Life" and "6 Feet Under" is the tracks' titles which were changed for obvious reasons...

C-Rayz Walz is a rapper from The Bronx, New York. He is currently a member of the underground record label Definitive Jux and NY hip-hop syndicate Stronghold. In addition to releasing four LPs and one EP, he has appeared on many other rappers' records, including Aesop Rock and Immortal Technique, and has done work with such artists as Percee P and Irish HipHop due Messiah J & The Expert. Immortal Technique is reputed - by Walz himself - to be the only emcee who can hold his ground against Walz in a freestyle battle.

On June 29, 2005 he appeared with Toki Wright on MTV's Made series as "MADE Coaches" for a caucasian teenager named Nile Greenberg (son of Steven Greenberg) who wanted to be made into a rapper. This was the premiere episode of the second series and featured Ghostface Killah, Snoop Dogg and The Game.
